Raising a work surface to waist height with an adjustable table or a simple platform eliminates the need to bend to floor level. Slide tables and roller conveyors let workers push loads horizontally instead of lifting and carrying them. Even something as basic as storing heavy, frequently used items between knee and shoulder height on a shelving unit — rather than on the floor or on a top shelf — removes a meaningful chunk of the injury risk without spending a dollar on new equipment.

If your OSHA 300 log shows a cluster of strain and sprain injuries tied to the same task or work area, that's not bad luck — that's data telling you exactly where to focus. Reviewing your injury log specifically for musculoskeletal patterns, rather than treating each incident as an isolated event, often reveals a single task or workstation responsible for a disproportionate share of your claims. That's the task to redesign first, and it's usually a far more efficient use of a limited safety budget than trying to address every possible manual handling scenario in the building at once.
